Barnard Grove Primary School, Durham

Barnard Grove Primary was newly built in August 2015 on a green field site. They lost a number of fully grown and newly planted trees in their nursery and foundation area during the demolition of the old school. This left their playground unprotected from the wind and took away an area used for outdoor class teaching and shelter from the sun for children and staff. Their school was a ‘blank canvas’ for which to replant and create unique wooded areas for children to use for many years to come and help reduce their carbon footprint. Our charity provided the school with 50 saplings in February 2019 to set up their own tree nursery on their grounds. Site manager Kevin Stainsby has provided these photos of their planting day below.
