Students in Hackney making their community greener with trees

It has just been a year since we donated the latest round of tree saplings to Rushmore Primary School in Hackney, London.

22 students, aged 5-10 years old, planted the 50 trees in their nursery with teachers and parents once again. Here is the eco committee when they received their new trees last year. Checking out the different saplings and getting ready to be planted.

The school had previously received trees from us in March 2022. You can read the lovely story about this planting in our blog here as well. The lovely photos below are from that day of planting.

Nikki, teacher at the school, told us:

“This tree nursery is looked after by our eco committee. We have a plan raise our saplings until they are ready to be planted into our local community. Our local tree planting charity ‘Tree Musketeers’ will take on trees that are old enough to be planted in Hackney.”

In January 2024, Nikki came back to us to let us know about the trees from their first planting in 2022.

It was now time for these trees to get out of the nursery. The students had done a great job looking after the trees during these two years. They were made responsible for them to grow larger and stronger for replanting elsewhere in their community.

The students also checked up on them and measured their growth as time and seasons passed.

Now, the trees have been passed on to Marcelo, from the local ‘Tree Musketeers’, who will plant them with and in the community of Hackney.

A great success story. We are looking forward to hearing about the trees from last years planting. Hopefully, we can also continue to provide Rushmore Primary School with more trees in the future.

Parents and the local community love the fact that we have a tree nursery and love it even more that the trees we are raising will be placed in our community for all to appreciate.
