Planting wildflowers at Primary school in Sedgefield

At Sedgefield Primary School, we recently donated 100 wildflower plugs for them to plant and create a small scale wildflower meadow.

The school’s PSHE Lead and Year 1 Teacher, Charlotte, was responsible for making the planting happen with the children. In total, 8 children aged 5-11 years old took on the day.

They told us that:

“We planted our lovely wild flowers with the school’s Eco-Warrior Group. We had some funding from our PTFA that provided us with new gardening gloves and watering cans for the project. We meet every other Thursday in school and prepared the planters before planting the 100 plants.

The children were very excited to plant the plugs, but knew it was important to prepare the areas first. The Eco- Warriors will be maintaining the wild flower meadow and will complete the survey to see if we get butterflies, bees and other important wildlife that use our flowers.

The Eco-Warriors said that it will be great for the environment, but will also be nice for the parents, children and staff to see the lovely flowers.

We would like to thank this project for providing the flowers to our school and we are willing to provide you with updates as our meadow grows.”

We are looking forward to hearing more about what this ECO-warrior group and how the wildflowers are doing once settled and blooming.
