Making Baldragon Academy in Dundee greener with wildflowers

This spring, we provided Baldragon Academy in Dundee with lots of native wildflower plugs to plant at their school.

A team of 10 pupils, aged 12-13 years old, and 2 teachers were in charge of planting them, which we were told the students were excited about. They spent a full day on this and the result was a new small wildflower meadow of about 12m2 in size.

Any size of patches with wildflowers and greenery is immensely helpful for future pollinators that will come around for much needed nectar. The wildflowers have particularly been chosen for their role as food plants for butterflies and bees.

Our wildflowers has also been part of a larger effort to make a significant area of their school grounds and landscape greener.

Their teacher, Hugh, said the following about the experience of taking part in our Flutter Flowers programme so far and what they have planned:

“The plug plants arrived in an excellent condition, which made it easy to remove from holders and plant into our three wildflower areas. The pupils have arranged them into three areas. This will become part of our sensory area, and the school will enlarge the wildflower area and construct dry stone chairs and walls in the same area.”

It's still early days, but we are hoping these wildflower plugs will help on their transformation to have several, wonderful green areas in their grounds for their students and teachers alike to enjoy.

You can follow them on #BaldragonGrows for updates on their transformation.
