Africa Impact

Grassland  Wildlife
Zimbabwe
Project Location: 3 conservation projects. located 1. private wildlife sanctuary, Gweru. 2. Victoria Falls 3. Hwange National Park

Ecosystem: Grassland

Species: Lions (and other wildlife)

Significance: Lions are the kingpin of africa's wildlife. they are under constant threat from disease, human inhabitants, hunting and poaching. 50 years ago 250 000 roamed the african continent. now there are between 12-18000. this in turn effects every wildlife species in africa, and the whole balance of nature has been disrupted and skewed

Description: Africa - savannah grasslands. mismanagement of eco-systems and governmental issues that have impoverished communities and led them to detract from their surrounding ecosystems for survival. lack of education on how to uphold local ecosystems.Course of action:working with volunteers and ecologists to continue data capture. working in conjunction with the WWF to secure land in other African regions for the release programme and protected areas to release lions back into.

No former training necessary. merely a passion for our projects and african wildlife and ecosystems. willingness to work hard and interact with young lions on a daily basis. the project is extremely well-supervised and pays careful attention to the needs of our volunteers.

To release captive-bred lions back into the wild. to re-populate african national parks with disease-free lions that are monitored and bred in our breeding programme. to create awareness for the plight of the african lion and it's ecosystems and gain support for our cause.

Accommodation: thatched 2 bedded rooms on the banks of a river at our safari camp within private wildlife conservancy. food: provided with 3 meals a day at safari camp restaurant cost: £1390 for one month (including once-off £700 project fee contributing towards the work of the project) £2095 for two months.
