Ecosystems everywhere are being fragmented, depleted and destroyed. As a result, the earth’s ability to sustain life is being seriously reduced, and the crisis point is rapidly approaching. Some experts suggest that we have no more than 30 years to turn things around.
Prevention of further damage is not enough, and in addition to conservation there is an urgent need to embark on a programme of environmental restoration By definition, the approach to restoring the earth must be global, and our vision is for Earth Restoration to become an official part of the United Nations programme for the 21st Century.
At the same time, each restoration project is unique to its location and is best managed by local people with local knowledge. Therefore, ERS focuses exclusively on supporting projects at the local level and emphasising volunteer resources.
Our Aims
The principle aim of ERS is to support a global network of environmental restoration projects with volunteer, technical and other assistance. In this work we seek to support projects that are working to:
- Repair degraded essential ecosystems
- Increase biodiversity
- Improve air quality and bring lower levels of greenhouse gases
- Restore top soil condition
- Provide for healthier water condition and quality
