Earth Restoration Project

Sussex

South Malling CE Primary School joined ERS in restoring parts of the local landscape around East Sussex, UK.

St Andrews Primary School, Nuthurst is a "rights respecting school" the first in Sussex.   In late 2007, they started the development of a School Tree Nursery and planted 30 native saplings.

Thomas A Becket Middle School, West Sussex, planted out a tree nursery containing 800 trees between 5-10 December 2007.  In 2008-2009, the school and the teachers outplanted the saplings to restore the local habitat, and they created their own woodland.

St Francis of Assisi School, Crawley - they have officially opened their outdoor classroom. This has proved a real bonus for everyone involved with teaching and learning at the school.  We hope our ERS trees will bring much addition to their school in learning about biodiversity and planting out into the local community.

St Mary's CEP School, Pulborough - The children aged 5-7 have just planted (Dec 2008) 100 saplings (Ash, White Willow, Oak and Mountain Ash) into their newly estalished tree nursery on their school grounds. Their nursery is on clay/sandy soil in a sunny south facing position.  They hope their trees do well and already have contact with our local tree warden who hopefully will help them with planting out when the time comes.  "This project has added a new purpose to our use of school grounds" says Mandy Davies, ERS Representative.

Duncton C of E First School, Petworth, West Sussex - the children planted 50 native trees into their tree nursery.
