Earth Restoration Project

The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN)

Based in United Kingdom,
supporting countries worldwide, with strong bias towards developing countries.

Start Date: Year 1994

Aims and Goals:

The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK registered charity which offers awards to nature conservation projects around the world. WFN aims to:

- source and fund some of the world’s most dynamic nature conservation leaders
- support work rooted in good science which also emphasises the benefits of habitats to local communities
- fund pragmatic projects that have a long-lasting impact on the ground
- help winners to raise their profile, network and educate others
- work with award winners to heighten public awareness of the serious problems facing ecosystems

WFN spreads the results of conservation research and pragmatic work through education in the UK and abroad.

Whitley Awards have been awarded to people around the world, but applications from individuals working in locations where international funds are hardest to raise, most needed, and will make the largest conservation impact are given priority over others.

Biodiversity loss and the hardships faced by local communities in some of the most wildlife rich and economically poor countries is a growing, global issue. It is also an urgent issue. WFN believes it can be addressed through investment in innovative local leaders who in turn inspire and teach others.

Work for Ecological Restoration:

WFN has supported a very wide range of projects, all of which involve local people, educate and are based on sound ecological science using an ecosystem approach. They always seek to fund the strongest projects where need is greatest.
